It’s Okay To Say You’re NOT Okay

When crazy times hit and things are not how we expect them to be, sometimes we can lose ourselves in trying to keep a brave face. We may smile and say everything’s fine for the sake of our kids, our spouse, our friends, and family, but in all honesty, who would be “okay” with a situation like the COVID19 quarantine reality?

Trying to make the best of it, in many cases, is all that you can do, but admitting that you are not okay is something that we need to do more often. When we admit that we’re not okay with this whole surreal situation, it shows our humanity and opens us up to accept this new (temporary) reality so that we can deal with it in the best way possible (which looks different for everyone).

I try to stay positive, but I also have days where I want to curl up and forget about things for a while. I can’t always do that because I have a 3-year-old that demands constant attention. However, when I finally admitted that I was not okay, somehow it made it easier…also, everyone is in the same boat — we’re all distanced from our loved ones, facing struggles (financial, emotional, time constraints, etc.), and trying to cope with this ever-changing, unpredictable situation.

Now that I have accepted the fact that I am not okay, but I am dealing with it the best way I can, I don’t feel guilty when I tell my husband I have to go for a 30-minute walk by myself, or I need to go sit on the front porch alone for a little bit. He knows now that it’s my way of keeping myself sane through this whole thing and working through the mommy stress. So, I hope that you can also find the courage to admit that you’re not okay, so you can do what you need to do to be the best you throughout this whole crazy business.

Here are some words to hopefully help get you through.
