I don’t know about you, but even though I know taking care of my skin is important, sometimes, I’m too busy or too tired to care. I think a lot of times it’s because I envision this crazy, detailed, long skincare regimen, and instead, I really need to focus on keeping it simple. The rewards from taking care of your skin are definitely worth a couple of minutes; that’s doable, right? So, I asked beauty, lifestyle, and mom blogger Jennifer Raskin to share her tips for simplifying skincare. Here are her simple pointers…and I can’t wait to give my skincare routine a much-needed refresh!
There’s no denying that taking care of your skin is of prime importance. After all, these good habits are what will keep us looking like hot moms even when our driver’s licenses announce a less-than-savory age. But if you have little ones underfoot, taking the time to go through a 12-step skincare routine every morning isn’t happening. At least not until they get a bit older.
That doesn’t mean you need to let your skincare fall by the wayside. All you need to do is simplify the process to tackle the basics for beautiful skin. Here are 3 quick ways that will simplify your skincare without sacrificing your appearance.
1. Perfect your cleansing technique
It might not seem like you have time for anything as a mom, especially in the morning. When everyone’s calling for breakfast or crying because they can’t find their other sock (spoiler alert: they’re already wearing it), you still have 60 seconds to cleanse. Choose a cleanser that favors your skin type, but don’t just rub it on and wash it away. Massage it in gentle circles for 60 seconds. This allows the ingredients to get to work.
Side note: don’t skip your cleansing at night either, especially if you wear makeup. Leaving makeup on can do major damage to skin that can’t be corrected later on. Unless you want huge pores you can see from space, cleanse!
2. Master moisturization
You can skip a lot of things in skincare if you have to, like toner or serum. While these have their own benefits you’ll want to try to incorporate, when it feels like the kids have set the house aflame, after that cleansing just add your moisturizer. You have to lock in hydration to your skin to keep it soft and supple. Again, choose one that matches your skin type and handles your skin concerns for the best benefits.
3. Multi-task that makeup
So you have to be somewhere this morning and you want to create the illusion that you’ve slept 8 hours and you have it all together. Whether it’s a playdate, job interview, or even because YOU want to like what you see in the mirror (which should be your biggest motivation anyway), you can mix a little foundation with your moisturizer and slice your prep time in half.
Follow it with a quick dusting of powder, bronzer to make you look alive, and blush. You can sweep blush on your eyelids and sweep on mascara to follow and literally be done in 5 minutes. Now, how’s that for simple?
Go forth, moms of the world, and do all those superhuman things we do without sacrificing your skin. These tips for simplifying skincare will help you feel confident in yourself, inside and out, no matter what your day holds!
