Summer Travel Plans Might Look a Little Different in 2020

Summertime has often been considered a popular time for family vacations, getaways with friends, beach trips, and a number of other exciting travel itineraries. However, this year, well, let’s just say 2020 has thrown a monkey wrench into quite a few people’s travel plans. But, this doesn’t mean summer vacation is a no-go, it just means you might need to get a little creative or simply change your plans a bit.

We were supposed to head to San Antonio this summer for our first real family vacation together. Up until now, our trips have either been just brief weekend getaways near our hometown, or camping weekends, or to go visit out-of-town family members. Needless to say we were super-excited.

As the date drew closer and COVID didn’t appear to be backing down, at least not where we were heading, we decided it best to change our plans. Especially since a number of the attractions and places we wanted to see were most likely going to be closed or limited in some way. We didn’t really want to drive all the way there to sit in our hotel room most of the time.

We found an awesome looking (small) cabin on 10-acres just under two hours from our home. We’ll see how it goes (I’ll update upon our return), but I am excited to simply be somewhere other than my house, with (ready for this? NO Wi-Fi or TV or distractions); just me and my family, including our pups, enjoying nature, going for walks, basking in the quiet, and spending time together with whatever animals are hanging out in the surrounding woods.

It will be an adventure, and honestly, it’s funny how excited I am about getting to sleep somewhere other than my house for a few nights. We’re taking a rain check on San Antonio so that we can enjoy it to the fullest when we do go.

In the meantime, I am going to enjoy my family to the fullest and appreciate the things I do have and the things I can do, instead of lamenting over things I cannot control. I have learned over the years, that there are always things that are going to happen that we don’t like, and most of the time, we can’t control them, but we can always control how we choose to react and how we handle different situations.

How about you? Did you have vacation plans that got derailed or are you pressing on as planned? How have you decided to adjust your summer fun?
