Whether you’re young or old, married or single, have kids or are doing your own thing, there is one thing that should hold true – you should value yourself. No matter where you are in life, no matter what others think of you, what is most important is what you think about yourself. How you perceive your own actions and how you feel about yourself as a person will directly influence your actions, how others see you, and your overall life (whether you realize it or not).
It doesn’t matter what your best friend has, what kind of car your neighbor drives, or what the other moms in the pick-up line think about your wardrobe choices. It doesn’t matter if you don’t bake as well as your sister or if you don’t have a dedicated space for scrapbooking. What matters is that you fill your life with things that mean something to you.
It’s not about making your life look like someone else’s. It’s not about making your life better than someone else’s. It’s about making YOUR life.
Don’t measure the success of your life by what others have, what they are doing and how they are doing it – measure your success by what you have, what you are doing, and how you feel about it.
We’re not here to live like everyone else, we’re here to live like no one else, so that we can create our own unique and purposeful lives.
Live each day in a way that helps you build the life that you truly want for yourself and for your family. Don’t be influenced by anyone else’s expectations or dreams (others may inspire you, but don’t let them dictate how you live your life if it’s not what you really want), you need to follow your own dreams. Write them down, turn them into goals, and work toward the things that matter most to YOU.
If others try to berate you or judge you or make nasty comments, smile and move on – the odds are high that those people are missing something in their own lives. That’s on them. Your responsibility is not to gain everyone’s acceptance and approval (that’s impossible, anyway).
Instead, simply focus on what moves you forward; what moves you in the direction that you want to go; and do things that help you keep moving. If something comes along that will take you off of your path, then that is something that you have to really consider – is it something you really want? Does it have value? Will it help you reach your goals? If the answer to these questions is no, then you probably should move on.
