I am a teacher and freelance writer in NOLA, and I am a mom to a very energetic 4-year-old. Before having my baby I was super into fitness and maintaining a strong, fit body. I also felt very strongly that how organized your house was had a direct link to your own sense of well-being and the amount of stress you feel. I still feel that way, and I try to keep things organized (things, papers, financial life, etc.) because in the long run it does make things go more smoothly, but after becoming a mom, things changed.
My fitness goals went from being super fit to just being able to keep up with a toddler (which takes a lot of energy, don’t get me wrong), and my organized house is still doing pretty good, but I don’t go crazy if the mail lives on the kitchen island for a few days.
A fit house and a fit body go hand in hand. When I became more flexible with what my idea of a fit body looked like, my idea of an organized house also changed. I called my page thefithouse because I think of our body as the house we’ll always live in and our house as a place that can make us or break us in so many ways if we don’t keep it “fit.”
A clear space means a clear mind. Less clutter means less stress. A healthy, strong body helps keep us focused and at our peak. We are capable of so much more than we think. Sometimes lately, I need to remind myself of this more and more. Now, in addition to hopefully motivate you to live the best life that you can for you and your loved ones, I can motivate myself to do the same.
