Three Sneaky Exercise Tips That Fit Your Schedule

One of my most recent Mommy Mindpower (now MamaZen – more to come from this awesome program!) articles was about ways to stay fit among the craziness of motherhood. Of course, even if you’re not rocking the mom jeans, ahem, you can still benefit from some sneaky ways to squeeze a little more fitness into your life!

Sure, the ideal might be to get in 30 minutes of exercise a few times a week, but in all honesty, doing something is better than doing nothing, as long as you give it your all! Likewise, working out for just ten minutes but at your full potential will net you better results than a 30-minute half-hearted attempt. Not only will you drop some pounds (if that’s your goal), but you’ll reduce stress, and just feel better! (My personal goal is to increase my energy and just be healthy).

Obviously, we’ve heard advice like “take the stairs” and “walk anywhere that’s less than a mile,” and those are great tips, but here are three more ways to work in a workout:

Take Your Meetings To Go — If you work in a job that requires constant meetings, brainstorm sessions, or collaboration with coworkers, then get moving! See if your fellow co-workers will agree to discuss the latest project during a power walk around the block, or even in your office building, instead of simply sitting around a conference table. The same goes for personal meetings, why not catch up with a friend during a walk at the park, instead of over ice cream? Plus, you’ll save yourself from the drawbacks of sitting for long periods of time

24

Turn Housework Into a Musical Number — I’m thinking all those Disney princesses had the right idea, singing and dancing just might make your chores go by faster. If nothing else, it definitely helps you burn more calories. You can burn nearly 200 calories when you scrub your floors, so amp it up with some of your favorite tunes and start getting fit while your house gets clean! When you’re done, you can check two things off your list!

25Get Buff with Bluetooth — Whether you’re on a phone conference for work, or engaged in a long and dramatic conversation with your best gal pal, get up and move while you’re on the phone. Go hands-free with a Bluetooth headset like this one and tone up while you talk with some resistance exercises. You can use lightweight dumbbells, a resistance band, or even water bottles, anything that adds a little extra weight. The same concept applies to when you’re watching TV or you have to watch training videos for a class or your job. Strength training has a number of benefits including building muscle, increasing strength, and even helping you burn more calories when you’re at rest.

Don’t stress about trying to find time to exercise. While it’s great to incorporate a regular fitness routine into your life, sometimes, life has other plans. Sneaking in some workouts, even if they are a bit unconventional can help you feel better, and you’ll be more likely to want to exercise when you end up with some free time (HA!). 😉

Do what you can, when you can, and just always give it everything you’ve got.
